September was wet, warm, and below average sunshine for the month. The temperature averaged 66.8°, 3.7 degrees per day above normal. Maximum temperature was 92° on the 8th day which is 8.9 degrees above to the long-term maximum temperature. The minimum temperature was 42° and was recorded on the 27th and 28th. Daytime high temperatures averaged 75.8°, which is 3.8 degrees above the norm. Evening temperatures averaged 57.7°; 3.1 degrees above the norm. There were 13 days with a maximum temperature of at least 80°.
Sunshine totaled 53% of the possible sunshine hours, 6.5% below the norm. They were 10 days of possible sunshine hours above 90% and 6 days with virtually no sunshine at all. The Blue Hills Observatory (official site for sunshine hour data) recorded 11 days with fog and the rest were sunny and clear. At East Wareham, 12 days were clear in the month and the rest were cloudy, misty, or rainy.
Precipitation totaled 6.6 inches; 2.26 inches above normal. The rainfall was 1.8 inches more than the amount received for the month in 2022. We had measurable rain of at least 0.10 inches on 7 days, and 3 days with spotty showers and drizzle with less than 0.10 inches recorded. The largest 24-hour rainfall was 2 inches on the 12th. By the end of September, a total of 41.63 inches of rainfall had been received for the year, 4.9 inches above the long-term average, and 8.33 inches more than 2022 total rainfall at this time of the year.
