Maya Cunningham's radio show Music In Culture: Sounds of the Black Experience was featured on a special broadcast in connection with the March On Washington on Fri. Aug 28th, 3-7 pm on WPFW 89.3 FM Washington DC.

It is documentary called Samba, Soul and Civil Rights: A Treatise In Revolution. The show explores the freedom songs and soul music from Black revolutionary music tradition that was used to fuel the African American Civil Rights Movement. We also explored the way African American soul music exported Black Power Movement ideologies to Black Brazil and triggered a renewed Black Movement in the early 1970s. The show integrates excerpts from a 2015 interview she conducted with the late Congressman John Lewis and live coverage of the March. It is archived on  89.3.
