Brenda Drew

Brenda Drew is a scholar and activist with a Bachelor’s degree in Africana Studies and History from San Diego State University. They hold a Master’s degree from California State University Los Angeles in Pan African Studies and her research focuses on the intersection between Black identity, queerness, fatness, and disability. They are a new PhD student in the Department of Afro-American Studies, where they will analyze the institutional settings in which fatphobia operates to impact the Black body such as in healthcare, politics, professional careers, spaces of queer culture, and in spiritual practices throughout the African diaspora.
