2019 brings the 5th biennial of the popular outdoor sculpture show, Art in the Orchard, held on the protected farmlands of Park Hill Orchard in Easthampton. This year’s biennial will feature 30 jury selected sculptures and hosted over 30,000 attendees. Sculptors from around the United States have presented their works in prior shows. In addition to the jury selected sculptures Art in the Orchard hosts an array art focused events including music, theater, dance, and storytelling. The first AIO biennial in 2011 was honored by the State with a prestigious Gold Star Award for exemplary community arts. Visitors come from Boston, New York, the Berkshires, Vermont, New England and Canada.

Art in the Orchard is looking for an intern with graphic design and organizational skills who can incorporate 2019 content into existing AiO templates and create new materials.
Art in the Orchard is open to the public from August 10th to November 24th ; however a significant amounts of the work will take place prior to the opening, August 10th. The focus for the summer and early fall will be preparing for the exhibition and related events.
- design graphic materials with the team
- produce drafts
- review with the team
- make edits & finalize materials
- deliver for print.
The elements needed for this year’s event include:
Priority Focus: Creation of a full color printed program guide to be distributed to ~30,000 visitors.
- Gathering materials – including imagery, ads, and written content
- Assembling into existing Indesign templates (approx. 7 pages)
- Communication with printer
- Kiosk Cards for tourist destinations
- Newspaper and Magazine Ad
- Invitational Postcards
- Event Flyers and Posters
Interns will work with members of the AIO team who have been involved with producing 4 prior biennials. Approximately once a week the team (including interns) will work together by phone or in person. The team also actively utilizes online workspace for exchanging documents, plans, and ideas. Beyond the weekly check-ins the intern can work asynchronously from home.
PERIOD OF INTERNSHIP/EMPLOYMENT: Summer and Fall Internship (July – September)
PAY TYPE: $200 stipend for travel, Recognition in Sculpture Trail Guide, Invitations to all key events throughout the year.

JOB STATUS: Part-time, 8-12 hours/week (Primarily in July and August.)
LOCATION: Park Hill Orchard in Easthampton, MA 01027 and work at home

REQUIRED CAPABILITIES: Experience with and access to current versions of Photoshop, InDesign, Word, and Adobe PDF on a laptop is necessary. Attention to detail, the ability to organize, and communication skills are highly valued.
