Community Music School of Springfield, founded in 1983, is a non-profit community arts school in Western Massachusetts. Our mission is to provide an equitable and inclusive center of excellence in music and arts education that empowers individuals, inspires creative passion, and promotes well-being in our greater community. We serve more than 700 students annually at our 127 State Street location, and an additional 1,000 students each week in our community partnership programs.
Choice of study includes private lessons, group classes and ensembles, adult music study, or for our youngest students, early childhood music classes and our acclaimed Prelude Preschool of the Arts. Our Community Partnership Programs provide weekly instruction for hundreds of children throughout Springfield in a variety of in-school and after school programs.
CMSS’ outstanding faculty of 50 musicians/educators inspire success at every level of achievement, from beginner to pre-professional study. We offer instruction in a broad spectrum of instruments and voice, and provide a wide range of musical genres including Classical, Jazz, Blues, Popular, Latin, Rock, Folk, Gospel, Hip Hop and more.

CMSS seeks a creative, organized, self-motivated intern to help us carry out our marketing plan by creating content (graphics, videos, copy), evaluating outcomes, and suggesting improvements and additions to the overall plan. Additional responsibilities may include data management and systems research. Our ideal candidate will have a vested interest in music, arts education, and the arts as a vehicle for social justice. Our ideal candidate will also have comfort with graphic design software, video editing, content formatting, and database platforms. The intern’s hours can be flexible, working some hours remotely and/or during non-business hours if desired. CMSS is very well connected in the Springfield community, and in the Pioneer Valley at large, so interning with our organization would provide the opportunity to meet and network with a variety of professionals in the world of music, arts education, and community action. CMSS is in the midst of institutional growth - our marketing/content creation intern would provide invaluable support for CMSS while contributing meaningfully to the Springfield community and learning marketable skills for a future career in the arts.
