Elementary Art Education Intern, Wildwood Elementary School, Amherst, MA

ABOUT WILDWOOD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Wildwood Elementary School is located next to the UMASS Amherst campus. We are a vibrant, multicultural, progressive public Kindergarten through sixth grade school with approximately 450 students. Classes come to the art studio once a week to explore drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, fiber arts, and mixed media artmaking. We seek to create a joyful and creative community of young artists, where all students feel supported, respected and capable. We learn about cultural traditions from all over the world and teach the universal language of visual art as a way to develop an appreciation for the diversity and commonalities of artistic expression.

INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION:

If you are someone who has thought about teaching as a possible career path, this might be a wonderful opportunity for you. We are seeking interns who enjoy and are comfortable working with young people to first and foremost support students during studio art classes. Positivity and good communication skills are important. A familiarity with and appreciation for art is a plus. Interns will also learn about and support behind the scenes work such as preparing for lessons and displaying student art. Technology skills would be helpful.
