ABOUT THE AMHERST DOWNTOWN BID (amherstdowntown.com):
The Amherst Downtown BID (Business Improvement District) is a non-profit agency that has the focus of a designated area (the downtown Amherst district) to initiate, manage and finance services to supplement town services for the benefit of the community. By strengthening services and implementing improvement of physical appearance, cultural and entertainment offerings and business development, we create a sustainable and vibrant downtown.
We offer our interns an opportunity to create, rethink, strategize events, programming and outreach that is exciting and dynamic and that could energize the broader community as well as attract visitors and tourists. A student’s perception and contribution is highly valued as we consider students to be an important part of our community. With our colleagues from the Amherst Center Cultural District, we hope to establish a synergy that best promotes Amherst as a vibrant, engaged community that supports the arts, and develop strategies in cross-promotion and cross-pollination to develop dynamic programming.
The BID hosts several events over the fall and the intern would assist in programming, messaging, advertising, promotion and outreach. These events include Adventure Into Amherst— a first-year student welcome-to-downtown event, the Celebrate Amherst Block Party and the Amherst Poetry Festival in September and the Full Disclosure Arts Festival in October.
Our interns will be responsible for creating dynamic, engaging copy and graphic design for posters and other messaging for print and social media as well as finding and arranging volunteers for events, and engaging student collaborators for downtown events and locations. The strongest candidates will have an interest and ability in graphic design and familiarity with InDesign, Photoshop, and other Adobe Creative Suite software and social media platforms including Facebook and Instagram. The interns will work directly with the BID Arts and Culture Coordinator as well as the Marketing and Executive Directors.
