The period of time after college graduation is one of the most daunting periods in a “former student’s” life. After years of structured classes and regimented academic majors, students are forced to face the job market - a seemingly impregnable beast. But, more frightening still, they are forced to venture to his lair - the "real world.” While John Mayer, in his pop-star wisdom, insisted that no such thing existed, new college graduates might beg to differ. After excitedly leaving crowded amphitheatres, their long gowns fluttering beneath them and their golden diplomas shielding their eyes, they are forced to confront a daunting question: are they prepared to face what lies outside? Not long ago, Colin Keane was one of these students. Yet, unlike many, Colin came to the real world confident in his skill set. And AES courses played a pivotal role in his preparation.

Calling Paula Del Giudice a renaissance woman is an understatement. She is not only a painter, photographer and writer, but an executive director of a non-profit and “something of a turnaround expert.” She not only has innumerable talents, but the discipline and vision to put these talents to meaningful uses. Arts Extension Service courses allowed her to solidify and expand her already considerable skills, and to apply them to a host of projects.

AES is pleased to announce that John Delconte has joined our online faculty and will be teaching Creative Economy and Placemaking this spring. In the Creative Economy and Placemaking course, students will learn what the creative economy and creative placemaking are, how they impact arts and culture, the role they can play in revitalizing a community, and what impact the creative economy and creative placemaking may have on their arts management work. Creative Economy and Placemaking can be taken “a la carte,” or as part of our degree and certificate programs, including AES’s new advanced Leadership Certificate in Arts Management.
