The Arts Extension Service (AES) will offer an Artist-in-Business Training at UMass Springfield on April 27th. In this day-long intensive, artists address key elements of both business and marketing practices to build their arts-based business. This training will provide resources for visual artists, performers, and creatives in all mediums. Session topics include pricing, web and offline marketing, understanding and reaching one’s target market, finance basics, and goal setting to reach their next steps. UMass Springfield is located at Tower Square, 1500 Main Street, Room 14, Second Floor. Space is limited and priority will be given to Springfield and Indian Orchard area artists. This training is sponsored by the Springfield Cultural Partnership, AES’s Arts Entrepreneurship Initiative, Springfield Local Cultural Council, and the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.
The Artist-in-Business training focuses on the key issues that all artists must address to build or expand their business. “This is a highly interactive day. Using exercises and small group work, the artists tackle their own unique issues. Taught by artists for artists, this training is open to artists who have been in business for many years as well as to those who are just starting out,” said Dee Boyle-Clapp, AES Director, Arts Entrepreneurship instructor and trainer. “The artists we have worked with in the past find that spending this day in the company of peers working on similar issues both inspires their art work, and motivates them to look differently at their business and prioritize what will make it a success.”
