AES Is excited to announce the upcoming Women in Arts Leadership Symposium: Connecting, Empowering, and Changing the Culture on October 27, 2018 at the South College Building on the UMass Amherst campus. The Women in Arts Leadership Symposium is possible thanks to a grant from the Women for UMass Amherst Fund.
The Women in Arts Leadership Symposium will celebrate the impact of women in arts and culture, and connect UMass and Five College students with emerging and professional women arts leaders through workshops and network building. By sharing their stories and questions, participants will investigate the particular barriers to women’s leadership in the arts, and contextualize their personal experiences within emerging research. In this one-day symposium, resources will be shared and relationships forged to support the next generation of women leaders in the arts.
"We welcome artists, arts managers, arts professionals, community workers, students, and alumnae to work together over the course of an entire day to identify issues and define steps to build a future in which women lead across all sectors of the arts.," says AES Director, Dee Boyle-Clapp. "We define women as anyone who self identifies as female, and welcome allies of all identities and backgrounds. We welcome an intersectional dialogue, which broadens our collective understanding and thoughtfully addresses the interplay of distinct privileges and systemic oppressions. By breaking our silence, sharing our stories, and lifting one another up, we will help ensure the impact of the next generation of arts leaders."
Save the date! More details about the symposium, including how to register and participate, will be announced later this spring. Email aes@acad.umass.edu to be added to the notification list.
