Design and Apparel Business Intern, Squeak Art

Visual artists, Sally Curcio and Anne Seuthe, have collectively exhibited in, and curated, more than 100 art exhibitions in the US and abroad.

The two UMASS alums work out of a Northampton, MA studio situated in the Connecticut River Valley (home to The 5-Colleges: Smith, Amherst, Mount Holyoke, University of Massachusetts, and Hampshire). Here, the annual influx of new people and new ideas from around the world provides continual inspiration.

Curcio and Seuthe first began collaborating in 2011 with the installation “X Marks The Spot” at DUMBO Arts Festival, Brooklyn, NY. Their mutual interest in art and commerce led to their founding Squeak Art and META (Museum Edition T Shirt Art).

Their t-shirts are now featured at the following museum shops: Wadsworth Atheneum, Historic Deerfield, and the Smith College Museum of Art. They have also been carried at Unite and Jackson & Connor, Northampton.  In the past year they have participated in regional sales events such as stART at the Street and stART at the Station in Worcester, MA; at Pop Up Revolve in Easthampton; and at Northampton Arts Market and Northampton Open Studios.

Curcio’s sculptures and Seuthe’s paintings were recently included in the exhibition “Mapping Heaven” at the Front Room Gallery, Brooklyn, NY.

We seek an intern who is organized, creative, and motivated and who is looking to gain insight into how an artist run business operates. The internship will offer the opportunity to build professional skills while working with experienced artists who are in the process of growing a design/apparel business.

The intern will have the opportunity to learn the complete process of getting a product to market: From design creation to branding, from dealing with the logistics of packaging to storing, and control of inventory.

As the intern acquires knowledge of the product and target market by working with Curcio and Seuthe, she/he will help to research potential vending opportunities for the products and will help to develop a social media plan to assist the company in reaching new markets.  Meeting locations will alternate between the art studio in Northampton, UMass campus, and other public locations between these two points, such as Rao's Cafe. Meeting times and locations will be mutually agreed upon and may vary from week to week.

REQUIRED DEGREE: Open to all levels and degrees; marketing or visual art major might be most interested. Experience in social media campaigns a plus.

PERIOD OF EMPLOYMENT: Summer Term or Fall Term 2015

PAY TYPE: Unpaid
