UMass ADVANCE Program Accepting Applications for Mutual Mentoring Grants

December 11, 2019

The ADVANCE Program is seeking faculty proposals for the ADVANCE Mutual Mentoring Team Grant Program for projects to begin in the 2020-21 academic year. Priority mentoring areas include projects aimed at helping faculty build inclusive communities, engage in research collaboration and participate in shared decision-making. Team grants are faculty-driven, context-sensitive mentoring projects, orchestrated by teams that conceive and carry out their own project plans. ADVANCE provides support of up to $6,000 per award.

The UMass ADVANCE program is a five-year (2018-23) National Science Foundation (NSF) funded $3 million grant to support gender equity for faculty in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) with a focus on collaboration. Specifically, the program aims to support collaboration and equity among faculty by gender, race/ethnicity, sexuality, gender identity and nationality.

The mutual mentoring program aims to support faculty at a wide variety of career stages, in developing robust professional networks that include a variety of mentoring partners within and outside the UMass Amherst campus. Mentoring grants are available to support networks comprised of four or more faculty and may include a mix of types and ranks of faculty. Priority mentoring areas include projects aimed at helping faculty build inclusive communities, engage in research collaboration, and participate in shared decision-making.

Proposals from full-time, tenure-track faculty and full-time lecturers who are on continuing appointments are welcome to apply. Proposals from faculty members in NSF-supported fields are particularly encouraged. All proposals must be led or co-led by a faculty from an NSF-supported field.
