Faculty Workload Equity

August 10, 2023

Building on the Faculty Workload & Rewards Project, an experiment led by KerryAnn O’Meara, Audrey Jaeger, and Joya Misra, The Roy J. Zuckerberg Endowed Leadership Chair & and UMass ADVANCE Program is providing support for workload equity in three ways.

  1. A Fall 2023 survey fielded by the Faculty Workload Equity Project to faculty in UMass departments. To participate, departments need to send a list of all faculty and their emails to workloadequity@umass.edu. Over 2022-23, twenty-seven departments at UMass received a detailed report about the workload issues their department finds most challenging. A report summarizing those findings can be found here.

  2. A Fall 2023 Zoom workshop, Friday, September 29 10:00 am-12:00 pm, aimed at helping faculty identify the most pressing workload issues for their departments. Register for the interactive workshop here, or view a taped version here: https://www.umass.edu/advance/videos

  3. A Spring 2024 Zoom workshop, Friday, February 9 10:00 am-12:00 pm aimed at helping faculty identify the right workload equity policy solutions for the issues that they have identified. There are multiple policy solutions for each issue, so that faculty can find the right solution for their context. Register for the workshop here, or view a taped version here: https://www.umass.edu/advance/videos

Workload equity teams can receive feedback on their workload equity plans, or engage in consultations with Joya Misra, by emailing misra@umass.edu
