A Look Back on Finals

As I finish a very unusual first half of my senior year at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, I reflect on what it’s been like taking classes remotely — more specifically, what it was like taking fully remote finals. I will admit that without a teacher reminding me in-person, I quickly grew to be overwhelmed by all that I had due, and I was scared going into it that I’d miss all my due dates. However, with all the help of my teachers via Zoom office hours, and the power of sticking to a schedule, I feel very confident that I did well on them.

The Academic Fellows Program at UMass Amherst

The Academic Fellows Program (AFP) provides opportunities and programs for students who are BIPOC, first-generation, and other historically-underrepresented students in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences (SBS) at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. I talked with AFP Diversity Fellows Kristal Yee and Jasleen Maldonado to hear more about their experiences with the program.

Yesterday afternoon, December 11, UMass Amherst released our first batch of Early Action admission decisions for first-year admission to the Class of 2025. The decisions released yesterday, over 7,600, include both international and domestic students from the record 21,153 Early Action applications we received. If you have not applied, there is still time to do so as the Regular Decision deadline is January 15, 2021.

Things I'll Do When I Return To Campus

This fall, the University of Massachusetts campus looked very different from it’s normal busy and bustling state. The campus, often thought of as it’s own mini city, hosted approximately 1,000 students on campus this fall. While life on campus may have been much quieter than normal this semester, we all look forward to a day soon when we can return to campus. Here are just a few of the things that I look forward to experiencing when I'm back at UMass!

Final Thoughts From A UMass Senior

As I am writing this, December 4th, 2020, it is officially the last day of finals here at the University of Massachusetts Amherst for the fall 2020 semester. For myself, this marks my final day as an undergraduate student here at UMass Amherst. After three and a half years, I can hardly believe that this lovely chapter is coming to a close. While this may not be the way I envisioned the ending of my time here to look like, I feel incredibly happy with the time I had and all the wonderful memories that I was able to create.

With my time at UMass Amherst coming to a close, here are my final thoughts and advice as I close this chapter.

Remote Classes at UMass

Like many of us, coming into college I never thought I would be taking classes from my childhood bedroom. I have been looking forward to getting started with my marketing classes since I started college, and this was my first semester doing so! The remote semester has been a difficult adjustment to make, but it has offered me so much space for growth especially within my academics. Remote classes at the University of Massachusetts have a slightly different structure to them, which I've found beneficial!
