Executive Director Rutvik Shah describes the council as “a diverse group of students working together to better the campus life at UMass Amherst”. The council plans and organize many different events featuring guest speakers, the performing arts, concerts, late night programming, and other special events. In addition to planning events, the UPC promotes and markets their events from the ground up. All events and programs are planned for students, by students.
On March 13th, 2020, an email was sent to inform University of Massachussets students that they would not be invited to return to campus after spring break. This would mark the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, the quarantine, and the abrupt transition to remote learning.
For prospective college students, the process of applying to colleges can be very lengthy and time consuming. From narrowing down your applications, writing your college essay, touring colleges, and much more, your college application process can span over a period of a year or even more. Having applied to college more than three years ago, I still vividly remember how much time and effort went into my applications. I wanted everything to be perfect, and this was the only chance I had to make a good impression on these colleges. While admittedly I was pretty stressed out during the majority of the process, I still remember how freeing it was to finally hit the submit button on the Common Application.
Public relations (PR) is a field in which strategic communication is used to build relationships between organizations and their audiences. My interest in PR definitely inspired my decision to become an intern and student blogger for UMass Amherst Admissions.
Applying to college is one of the most stressful and important times in your life. It’s filled with researching colleges, essays, waiting and excitement! As a junior at UMass Amherst, I asked some of my friends who are also members of the class of 2022 at UMass to look back at their time as seniors in high school applying to college. These are some of my closest friends who are now my roommates and my boyfriend, and I’m so grateful UMass has brought me so close to them. We hope we are able to ease some stress about the application process and get everyone excited about applying to UMass!

Although this year and this semester have brought many challenges to all students across the world, UMass helped us get through it and I have learned a lot about myself as a student and person.

Mudarme a los Estados Unidos desde Bolivia fue una aventura para mí. Lo único—además de mi familia y amigos—que me ponía triste dejar atrás era mi comunidad latinx. En Bolivia, claro, no pensaba en comunidad con latinx. En realidad, no fue hasta que vine aquí que me di cuenta de que muchas cosas intrínsecas para mi (el idioma en gran parte), también eran intrínsecas en la cultura latinx. Y así, empecé a extraña pequeñas cosas como saludar a la gente con un beso en la mejilla o escuchar una canción de reggaetón donde sea que vaya (gracias a Blue Wall por poner reggaetón una que otra vez).
