This fall, the Isenberg School of Management held their annual Career Day. The event was held virtually using Career Fair Plus, a platform designed to host virtual career fairs, featuring one on one sessions as well as a breakout room feature for smaller group sessions.
Melissa Salva, director of employer engagement at Isenberg’s Chase Career Center, notes that despite the change to a virtual format, employers were very eager to participate. More employers participated this year than last fall’s in-person fair, and 634 students participated. A total of 2,398 individual meetings with recruiters occurred during the course of the event.
With most University of Massachusetts classes happening remotely this semester, there are undoubtedly numerous students missing the liveliness and energy of campus life, I know I am! As a final semester senior, I am acutely missing life on campus. With the semester already in full swing, I found myself feeling a bit detached from the semester in my new remote work environment. This had me thinking; how can I bring the energy and spirit of UMass to my new found off-campus workspace?

In recent history, UMass Amherst was recognized in October 2020 as one of the top 40 LGBTQ-friendly campuses in the country. While this is our 10th consecutive year with such a distinction, efforts towards progress and inclusivity actually began at the university in the 1980s. The moment that seemed so far away for such a long time is finally here- it’s my senior year! These past three years have flown by and I can’t believe I’m in my last year at UMass Amherst. Because I am a senior this fall, I wanted to take fun and interesting courses that would challenge me one last time before I graduate. I am loving all of my Fall 2020 classes so far, and I want other University of Massachusetts students to learn more about these incredible courses too! The Snapchat memories are rolling in, reminding me that at this time last year I was discovering campus as a first-year student at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. October 2019 was a very fun and festive month!
For all University of Massachusetts Amherst students, this semester looks a lot different than it has in the past, but for students living on campus and off campus in Amherst there are still opportunities to safely get out, eat out and enjoy our community!
During the college application process, it is important to try to make yourself stand out amongst the thousands of other applicants. Although your previous GPA and test scores give college admissions office knowledge on your academic abilities, it does not give insight into who you are as an individual outside of school.
