As I enter my last semester at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, I acknowledge that this year has been far from ordinary. Although my senior year may not have been ideal, I’m lucky to have had the opportunity to stay in Amherst with some of my favorite people in the world. Here's a few thoughts on the fall 2020 semester.
The Academic Fellows Program (AFP) provides opportunities and programs for students who are BIPOC, first-generation, and other historically-underrepresented students in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences (SBS) at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. I talked with AFP Diversity Fellows Kristal Yee and Jasleen Maldonado to hear more about their experiences with the program.
Yesterday afternoon, December 11, UMass Amherst released our first batch of Early Action admission decisions for first-year admission to the Class of 2025. The decisions released yesterday, over 7,600, include both international and domestic students from the record 21,153 Early Action applications we received. If you have not applied, there is still time to do so as the Regular Decision deadline is January 15, 2021.
This fall, the University of Massachusetts campus looked very different from it’s normal busy and bustling state. The campus, often thought of as it’s own mini city, hosted approximately 1,000 students on campus this fall. While life on campus may have been much quieter than normal this semester, we all look forward to a day soon when we can return to campus. Here are just a few of the things that I look forward to experiencing when I'm back at UMass!
As I am writing this, December 4th, 2020, it is officially the last day of finals here at the University of Massachusetts Amherst for the fall 2020 semester. For myself, this marks my final day as an undergraduate student here at UMass Amherst. After three and a half years, I can hardly believe that this lovely chapter is coming to a close. While this may not be the way I envisioned the ending of my time here to look like, I feel incredibly happy with the time I had and all the wonderful memories that I was able to create.
With my time at UMass Amherst coming to a close, here are my final thoughts and advice as I close this chapter.
There are 3,514 international undergraduate students at UMass Amherst, and 1,677 of them are Chinese students. As one of the international students, I would like to share my stories and experience of living and studying at UMass Amherst.
Like many of us, coming into college I never thought I would be taking classes from my childhood bedroom. I have been looking forward to getting started with my marketing classes since I started college, and this was my first semester doing so! The remote semester has been a difficult adjustment to make, but it has offered me so much space for growth especially within my academics. Remote classes at the University of Massachusetts have a slightly different structure to them, which I've found beneficial!
Fraternities and sororities collectively make up a significant number student body groups here at the University of Massachusetts. UMass Kappa Phi Lambda is one of several sororities here on campus to choose from. Let's find out more about what it's like to be a "sister" with the Kappas!
Back in November 2019, I accepted a summer 2020 internship with General Motors. I fully anticipated that I would be moving to Detroit for the summer and working in person at the Renaissance Center, one of GM’s many corporate buildings. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, I ended up working completely virtually from my childhood bedroom in Massachusetts. While I was very intimidated and nervous about conducting such an important internship from a completely different state, now that I have completed my summer with GM, I am incredibly thankful for the virtual experience.
Here is how my virtual internship experience with General Motors went this summer.
I often reflect on my memories from my time at the University of Massachusetts, and have a rush of positive feelings hanging onto the hope that we can be back as soon as it is safe! I got to live on campus for the majority of my sophomore year, and since March have been staying in my hometown. I wanted to share some of my most memorable and favorite experiences as a UMass student and what I would do if I could be back on campus with you!
My apartment in Antibes is located in a residential building, just across the street from the ocean. From our third-floor balcony, we can see the ocean and enjoy the late afternoon sun.Every roommate group inCEA has an apartment in a different building in the town, and I have come to love mine.
