The college decision process can be super stressful, and just two years ago I was feeling the same mix of emotions you’re probably feeling right now. Especially when combined with the excitement of the holiday season, it can be hard to find times to take a break, but it’s even more important now to do so! I’m going to share some of my five favorite ways to unwind, and hope to inspire you with these ideas.
Approaching the Common Application first-year essay can be a daunting task. I've been there. Sitting and staring at the laptop for hours feeling lost about where to start. This fall the The Massachusetts Daily Collegian, our student-run campus newspaper, hosted a virtual career panel featuring a diverse group of women leaders. All of them were alumni, who shared invaluable gems about their experiences at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and in their careers in communications.
As I finish a very unusual first half of my senior year at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, I reflect on what it’s been like taking classes remotely — more specifically, what it was like taking fully remote finals. I will admit that without a teacher reminding me in-person, I quickly grew to be overwhelmed by all that I had due, and I was scared going into it that I’d miss all my due dates. However, with all the help of my teachers via Zoom office hours, and the power of sticking to a schedule, I feel very confident that I did well on them.
As I enter my last semester at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, I acknowledge that this year has been far from ordinary. Although my senior year may not have been ideal, I’m lucky to have had the opportunity to stay in Amherst with some of my favorite people in the world. Here's a few thoughts on the fall 2020 semester.
The Academic Fellows Program (AFP) provides opportunities and programs for students who are BIPOC, first-generation, and other historically-underrepresented students in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences (SBS) at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Yesterday afternoon, December 11, UMass Amherst released our first batch of Early Action admission decisions for first-year admission to the Class of 2025. The decisions released yesterday, over 7,600, include both international and domestic students from the record 21,153 Early Action applications we received. This fall, the University of Massachusetts campus looked very different from it’s normal busy and bustling state. The campus, often thought of as it’s own mini city, hosted approximately 1,000 students on campus this fall. While life on campus may have been much quieter than normal this semester, we all look forward to a day soon when we can return to campus. Here are just a few of the things that I look forward to experiencing when I'm back at UMass!
As I am writing this, December 4th, 2020, it is officially the last day of finals here at the University of Massachusetts Amherst for the fall 2020 semester. For myself, this marks my final day as an undergraduate student here at UMass Amherst. After three and a half years, I can hardly believe that this lovely chapter is coming to a close. While this may not be the way I envisioned the ending of my time here to look like, I feel incredibly happy with the time I had and all the wonderful memories that I was able to create.
With my time at UMass Amherst coming to a close, here are my final thoughts and advice as I close this chapter.
There are 3,514 international undergraduate students at UMass Amherst, and 1,677 of them are Chinese students. As one of the international students, I would like to share my stories and experience of living and studying at UMass Amherst.
This fall, the Isenberg School of Management held their annual Career Day. The event was held virtually using Career Fair Plus, a platform designed to host virtual career fairs, featuring one on one sessions as well as a breakout room feature for smaller group sessions.
Melissa Salva, director of employer engagement at Isenberg’s Chase Career Center, notes that despite the change to a virtual format, employers were very eager to participate. More employers participated this year than last fall’s in-person fair, and 634 students participated. A total of 2,398 individual meetings with recruiters occurred during the course of the event.
