Perks of Second Semester

Although the first semester at UMass is an unforgettable experience, the second semester actually has a few perks that make it better than the first.

Spring Concert

Every year, UMass hosts a spring concert for its students at the Mullins Center. Multiple artists perform, and the event is free for all UMass students. With some top-name musical performers making appearances in the past, it’s always exciting to see what UMass has in store. The concert itself has food, and the floor is completely accessible for dancing and mingling. It is one of the most popular events that UMass holds, so be sure to get your free tickets when they are available for pick up.

Weather and Spring Break

Perhaps one of the biggest improvements of the second semester is the weather. It finally begins to heat up! Soon enough, it’s shorts and t-shirt season once again. New England winters can be quite brutal, so when the warm spring air finally comes around, you know you are in the clear for a comfortable second semester. On top of this, spring break occurs in March. Many students decide to go on a mini-vacation with a group of friends. Regardless of what you do, it is always great to have a week off to relax and rest.

Spring BBQs

UMass also creates a couple of fun and popular spring barbecues around campus. At each of these, there is an abundance of picnic tents and chairs so everyone can attend. There is also a buffet line of classic barbecue foods such as ribs, hamburgers, corn on the cob, and more. And there is always upbeat and popular music playing with games and activities as well.

Time, Time, Time

For some reason, and many students can attest to this, the second semester seems to go by a lot faster than the first semester. The reasoning behind this may be because many students are in the routine of school, so it flies by. Nonetheless, the fact of the matter is that anticipation of summer is always something to be excited about. Whether it involves starting an internship, seeing childhood friends, or going on vacation with family, everyone enjoys the summertime and spring semester is one step closer to that.

Spring semester at UMass is a joyous time. It will go by fast and, even though we're all looking forward to summer, UMass in the spring is almost as good.
