The Western Massachusetts area has tons of places to eat, and the Amherst region is no exception. There is a ton of variety when it comes to restaurants around this region but my favorite one by far is the Hangar Pub and Grill, which is located just outside of campus. Here are a few reasons why the Hangar is the perfect place to get some food!
When going to a restaurant of course you want the best food, for me that’s wings. The Hangar Pub and Grill has, hands down, the best wings out of any place in the area. Whether your preference is bone-in or boneless, they serve both kinds perfectly, and have a whole array of different types of sauces to satisfy any hungry itch. My personal favorite is to get boneless honey barbecue, but sometimes I also get buffalo bone-in, which is just as good. If wings isn’t your thing, there are various sandwiches and other entrees to choose from.
One of the best attributes when going to the Hangar are the immense amount of television screens that are perfect for sports and big games. I went there for the Superbowl, and the intensity of watching it in a place with good food, and people just as excited about the Patriots as I was, made the whole experience even more enjoyable. There are so many televisions that no matter what game you hope is on, the Hangar will surely have it playing on at least one of them.
Besides the food and TV, there is actually more to do at the Hangar. There is a whole other area of the restaurant that is dedicated to games. There are a handful of vintage arcade games, billiards, giant jenga, and even indoor cornhole. Being able to eat a good meal, and then just hang out after and play games is really underrated. The fact that this establishment has these types of activities here makes it seem more than just a restaurant.
In total, I consider the Hangar Pub and Grill to be one of my favorite restaurants in Amherst, and I will continue to go there on a regular basis in order to enjoy their delicious wings, high energy sports experience, and an abundance of fun games to play with friends. I highly recommend this place to any UMass student who wants to venture off campus.
