This past weekend my friends and I headed to Orange, Mass., to attend the yearly North Quabbin Garlic and Arts Festival.
We have been in attendance every year since we were freshmen, after accidentally stumbling upon the festival grounds on a day of complete boredom. Since then the festival has become an important tradition within my friend group and has us an opportunity to explore the surrounding area!
A perfect fall festival for all ages, Garlic and Arts offers picturesque New England views and colorful leaves paired with (yep, you guessed it) garlic AND arts! The festival features a lineup of many local stores, businesses, and products that are sure to please everyone. From body scrubs to watercolor paintings of cloves of garlic, this festival truly has it all.
Inspired by everyone's favorite vegetable, garlic (at least I think it’s a vegetable), many garlic-inspired delicacies can be bought at the food section. This year I purchased a garlic hot dog, garlic fries, and even a clove of fried garlic! As for dessert, while my friends got fried dough with maple cream, I decided to step outside of my comfort zone and get a frozen chocolate dipped cheesecake on a stick. (Spoiler alert: I wasn’t disappointed)
In addition to the various shopping and craft tents, the festival also offers LIVE music! Spanning across three distinct stage setups, visitors can hear a variety of unique music throughout the day ranging from rock to traditional African music!
Although the festival is over for the year, make sure to mark your calendar for the end of September in 2019 so you can be in attendance at the next festival. Admission is only five dollars and it will surely not disappoint you. For more information, check out https://garlicandarts.org/.
