Research translation builds upon the new knowledge, discoveries, inventions, and creative works resulting from curiosity-driven research with the goal of addressing real-world problems and unmet needs. The focus shifts from curiosity-driven to use-inspired research with the aim of bettering the lives of individuals, creating positive societal impact, and/or improving the world. Translational research often includes collaboration with larger and more multidisciplinary teams, engagement of users and stakeholders, and application-based milestones.
If you are a graduate student, postdoctoral fellow, or faculty researcher at UMass Amherst and you are interested in research translation, the Accelerating Research Translation team is here to help. We are a NSF-funded campus wide-effort and are ready to work with you.
One of the aims of Accelerating Research Translation at UMass Amherst is to make all of these resources more visible and accessible. Resources provide innovation and entrepreneurship support, research centers that bring industry and university collaborators together, extension organizations that offer training in clean energy technologies, food and agriculture, arts entrepreneurship, programs that support fair and ethical technology development, organizations that facilitate community engagement and more.
We are a campus resource that can be included in proposals needing support for translational and commercialization efforts. If the proposal you are writing calls for innovation, entrepreneurship, and community engagement let's talk about the best way to leverage our resources to strengthen your proposal.
