“Continuing-Track faculty” are non-tenure-track faculty (NTT) who make central contributions to the advancement of UMass Amherst's mission through teaching, outreach and engagement, supervision of clinical experiences, student advising and mentoring. Many also hold significant administrative and leadership positions within their department, college, and beyond. The evaluation of faculty for continuing appointment is an important administrative process and a significant responsibility that ensures the continued excellence of our institution.

These pages provide a summary of the procedures required for all recommendations concerning continuing appointment reviews. This information is based on the UMass-MSP Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). To the extent that any of the information provided on this website is contrary to information contained in the CBA, those documents prevail.

Who Is Eligible for Continuing Appointments?

Faculty titles eligible for continuing appointments include those in the lecturer series, clinical series, extension series, and professor of practice if employed at least 50% time and not funded by grants or contracts.

Continuing-Track faculty must serve a probationary period of at least three consecutive years of full-time equivalent service to be eligible for a continuing appointment.
