Mission
The Academic Human Resources unit within the Office of the Provost at UMass Amherst serves as a vital link between the schools, colleges, departments, and their HR staff, providing access to essential services and support specific to the employment of our faculty, librarians, graduate employees and researchers. Our team is committed to promoting collaboration and driving excellence in the recruitment, hiring, retention, and advancement of academic employees. We are responsible for the negotiation and administration of collective bargaining agreements that govern the terms and conditions of employment for over 4,000 faculty, graduate employees and post-doctoral researchers. We also oversee the reappointment, promotion and tenure process and administer numerous benefits programs specific to academic employees.
Our vision is to be recognized as a leading provider of exceptional services and a trusted source of expertise on academic personnel practices and institutional policies. We are devoted to empowering our academic community, working closely with University offices, and continually enhancing the services we provide to academic staff.
