The book version of the Adelphi Calendar is designed to help students of the theatre’s history to select, copy and manipulate the data in many ways. The first choice is as Adobe or Word documents. The second is as documents in Extensible Markup Language (XML). Also available are the original parameter files and its Infol-2 output. We retained them for their historical value.
Each of the following fourteen books may be downloaded in three formats. One is Adobe; two are in Microsoft Word format: doc or docx. Simply click on the book you want and follow instructions.

Extensible Markup Language (XML) produces an uncomplicated format, easily read by humans and machines. It emphasizes Internet simplicity, universality, and usability. While hundreds of document formats use its syntax, XML is also widely used in web services. Its formats have also become the default for many office-productivity tools, including Microsoft Office and Apple's iWork.
Links for XML and DTD are below. The user should place her mouse over the link, select the right mouse button, and choose the browser’s "Save As" menu option. On some browsers, it's called "Save link as..." on others "Save target as..." etc.
The uncompressed XML file is about 479 MB in size. To make it easier to download, the compressed (ZIP) version is supplied (19 MB). The DTD is included in the XML files and also supplied separately below. The creation of a style sheet became rather difficult due to the number of tags, so one is not included.

Many decades ago when the Calendar project began, databases were in their infancy. A package out of CERN called Infol-2 was selected for the project. For its time, it was powerful but involved a tedious entry process--every item had to be input using a *number* format. There were 87 possible choices for each. Subsequently, with the help of Theodore Seward, now of the Northrop Corporation, a basic parameter file was developed and some one-time programs used to create it. Eventually, there would be 99 of them—one for each season. However, for future use, the XML files are recommended, but the parameter files and the Infol-2 files are retained as interesting historical artefacts.
