Warring States Sinology
Sinological Conferences
Journals are one way of bringing Sinology together. Conferences are another. There are several notable series of conferences of Sinologists, or including Sinologists, which amount to institutions in their own right. Some of them are the membership meetings of major institutions; others have their own organization which exists chiefly to support the conference. Here are a few samples. It will be seen that they provide case studies of the obsolescence and metamorphosis of institutions, and examples of the perils of international intellectual cooperation in a period of major wars and convulsions. They could hardly do otherwise.
