Chu
Chronology

The only secure dates for Chu events are those in the Chun/Chyou (CC) or "Spring and Autumn" chronicle of Lu. Those dates are given here in their entirety, together with some clearly related entries. They comprise a detailed history of Chu as seen from a Lu perspective and within the 0721-0481 timeframe covered by the CC. It seems there is no reliable source for anything earlier than this, so that in the strict sense, Chu is known to history only in the years following the fall of Jou. For Chu events not derived from CC, the source is given at the end of the entry, and the material in question is highlighted. Sources are:

BA = Bamboo Annals
CM = Chyen Mu
DJ = Dzwo Jwan
GY = Gwo Yw
SJ = Shr Ji

Other sources are given as numbers (01, etc), and explained at the end of the table for that century. Note that the Jan-gwo Tsv is excluded. Note also the realia sources:

AR = Archaeology
IN = Inscription

The first CC references to Chu call it Jing, changing to "Chu" only in 0659. That difference is here preserved. Lunar months are given as two-digit numerals: 09 = 9th month. Seasons are abbreviated as Sum = Summer, and so on. "A man of Chu" in the CC chronicle often means "a force led by an unspecified Chu leader."
