Abbreviations

These are used in the Vocabulary entries to save space, and also sometimes in the glosses to the Reading selections. Compare the grammatical notes in the Preface page.

abl / ablative; the "from" case.
aa / ablative absolute; "this having been done"
acc / accusative. The object of the verb.
adj
/ adjective
av / active voice; the action of the verb "is done" to the object
dat / dative; the "to" case.
f / feminine
gen / genitive; the "of" case
ind / indicative mood; a positive statement (cf subjunctive)
inf / infinitive of a verb; the "to" form.
m / masculine
n / neuter
n / noun [we don't expect conflicts with the preceding abbreviation]
n3 / 3rd declension noun (etc)
n3f / 3rd declension, feminine
nom / nominative. the subject of the sentence
pc / participle of a verb
ppc / past participle
pl / plural
pn / pronoun
pv / passive voice; the action of the verb "is done" to the subject
sbj / subjunctive mood; a conditional statement (cf indicative)
sg / singular
v / verb
v3 / 3rd conjugation verb
