Ancient China in Context
Introducing China
These medium-format paperback books are related to the studies in The New Chinese Classics: they pick up a thread in one of those volumes and follow it further, or they isolate a cluster of translated passages and present that text more completely. They supplement the original studies, and will be of interest to the same readership, but they do not assume prior acquaintance with the original studies, or with ancient China in any form. Together, they cover some of the most important persons and ideas of ancient China, and they are written so as to be accessible to those making a first acquaintance with one of the major philosophers, or with the whole history of ancient China. They are our wide-audience series.

Fuller analyses of some of these texts and historical developments are available in The New Chinese Classics.
