Classical Chinese Primer
Word Groups

The order of vocabulary acquisition in the Primer is that in which words are encountered in the Lessons. By simply following the lessons, it would take a long time to learn all the numerals, or all the directions. To complement the Lessons, we therefore give a few such word groups in this section. They are noted in the Lessons at the points where any member of the set occurs. It is not assumed that the student will memorize all of a set of terms on first encountering one of them. At the same time, we recognize that it is frustrating to know the numeral "two" but to have no access to the rest of the numerals until they happen to turn up in the Lessons. So here they are. Do what you like with them.

Further information about many of these sets is provided in the Cohen Introduction, which is cited in these lists simply as "Cohen."
