News of Project activities, including speaker events on and off the UMass campus, is available at our News page. For those nearby, there is a supplementary electronic Announcements network (if you would like to be added to that list, just ask). For Project publications, both past and pending, see the Journal and Publications sections of this site. Some collaborative conversations on special topics leave traces which may be found in the Results and Synoptica sections. Material for those or other sections, or specific questions about any aspect of Project work past or present, can be sent to the Project at any time via the E-mail link at the bottom of this and nearly every other page on this site. These are our public channels.
Taking Part
Being in more direct contact with the Project's current researches typically involves participating in the ongoing conversation which is hosted by the WSW E-mail list. More specialized conversations are available in CGC (comparative history and law, with a China/Greece focus), SJS (the Shr corpus, and analogous poetic inventories elsewhere, including the Psalms and the Rg Veda), or GPG (general philology in ancient traditions, with current interest in New Testament investigations centering on the Synoptic Problem, as a second and parallel field of application for philological method). These conversations are private, and they have a protocol of their own. Newcomers to any of these lists will need to be familiar with the Project's distinctive methodology, and its chosen limitations of scope. The chief points are (1) no postmodernism or reliance on later texts as evidence for early periods; (2) basic scholarly courtesy and civility in conversation (including the use of "real names" rather than fictive identities); and in particular (3) respect for the confidentiality of the discussion, and scrupulousness in citing or acknowledging the ideas of others which appear in that discussion.
These basic points are elaborated on the pages below. If you think you might be interested in joining the conversation, please read through them, beginning with Methodology. Note also that these Project E-lists do not accept passive auditors. They are not a means for gaining access to the Project's unpublished results. They are rather a medium for active scholarly cooperation in the production of future results.
- Methodology (We do not wish to debate the "postmodern" thing all over again)
- List Protocol (The basic expectations of any scholarly conversation)
- The Seminar Concept (What a collaborative discussion is like)
- Citation Conventions (How, and whether, to refer to WSW messages)
- Fixing Your Yahoo ID ("Real Name" absolutely required)
Those who find the foregoing understanding agreeable are invited to contact the Project, giving a paragraph of self-introduction which will be used to announce the new member to the old members. Then visit the archive page of WSW (or, if more appropriate, CGC or SJS or GPG). Once there, click on "Join This Group," and follow the instructions there provided. Remember that as part of the process you must either create a Yahoo ID including your "real name," or add your "real name" to your existing Yahoo ID. For detailed instructions, if needed, refer back to the Yahoo ID page.
If you have a technical problem, go to the pages listed under List Mechanics page at this site for our best advice on how to solve it. If that does not help, contact the Project directly.
To the automated message of Welcome which new list members will receive from Yahoo, we here add our own. We hope you find the discussion fruitful, and we look forward to learning from you.
