Fixing Your Yahoo ID

There is just one more thing, and then we are done.

It is a requirement of membership on any Project E-mail list that other members know, or can find out, who you are. The place they will go to find it out, or to see who they are talking to when they post a message, is the Members List. That list is (more or less) arranged by members' Yahoo ID. We don't care what your Yahoo ID is. The important thing is that your real name is included in the attached information, so that it will display separately, directly below the Yahoo ID.

To apply for membership on a Project list, or to retain it if you are admitted provisionally, your "real name" must display in this way. The rest of this page tells how to do this. If your ID already includes your "real name," skip to the bottom of the page and continue.

If you do not presently have a Yahoo ID, go to the basic Yahoo page. You will be given an opportunity to create an ID. In doing so, be sure to fill in the "Real Name" and "Location" lines.

If you already have a Yahoo ID, but it does not contain that information, here is how to add it. Go to the home page of any Yahoo list of which you are a member. Its address will be of the form

http://groups.yahoo.com/groups/wsw

(for "wsw" substitute the name of any group). Click on Members in the lefthand column of that home page. You will be taken to the Members list. Scroll down until you find your own Yahoo ID. Click on that ID name. You will be shown a Profile page, on which your existing information is displayed. If your "Real Name" shows correctly, you are OK. If it does not, click on the button near the top of the Profile page which says Edit This Profile. You will be shown a version of the Profile page on which you can add or change information. On that page:

This should do it. If you have trouble, please contact the Project (via the link below), giving the problem and supplying your Yahoo ID password. We will make the change for you, and then discard the password.

Some have found this small but important matter to be difficult. (Some have changed their E-mail address, which is not the point; the point is the information in your Yahoo ID). We hope that these instructions will eliminate the problem. If they do not, if the instructions themselves are confusing, or if you encounter a different page than the one we describe, please notify us.

Thanks for your understanding, and for this necessary extra effort.

This completes our Making Contact introduction. The arrow below will take you back to that page, for instructions on how to request membership in one of the Project lists.
