John
Additions
Scholars have noticed a number of passages in John which seem to be interpolated in context, or else revealed by manuscript variants as not original. The following are among those most often recognized as presenting problems for the theory of an integral Gospel of John. We follow the list given in the 1972 commentary of Barnabas Lindars. Note that some of these passages may also be construed as rearrangements rather than as interpolations, and are considered under both categories.
- Jn 1:1-18, except 1:6-8 and 1:15 (The Prologue)
- Jn 6 (An Exegetical Expansion of Jn 5:47)
- Jn 7:53-8:11 (Pericope de Adultera)
- Jn 11:1-46, 12:9-11 (The Lazarus Material)
- Jn 15-17 (Intruded Between Jn 14:31 and 18:1)
- Jn 19:35
- Jn 21 (The Epilogue)
- Conclusion
