Welcome
The University Writing Program is committed to the belief that skill in writing is the hallmark of the educated person in any career or profession and is the collective and trans-disciplinary responsibility of the academic community. The Writing Program’s primary mission is to help students acquire the writing skills they will need in their academic work, in their careers, and in their lives generally.
The Program is responsible for teaching all first-year writing courses and supporting the junior-level writing course (taught in a student’s major department) that form the writing requirement within the general education curriculum. To ensure quality writing instruction for our students, The Writing Program also includes a nationally-recognized teacher-education program for its staff of graduate student teaching associates; the Writing Center, a free tutorial service for writers of all levels; and a consultation service and annual conference to support faculty seeking to incorporate writing into their own courses. The Writing Program offers a range of courses, including Englwrit 111: Basic Writing; Englwrit 112: College Writing; and experimental writing classes for elective credit.
