University Writing Requirements

Junior-year Writing Requirement

The University offers a Junior Year Writing Program that is part of the student's major. Students will normally complete this departmental program during their junior year, in conjunction with the academic work that leads to the completion of the major.

The prerequisite for junior-year writing is Englwrit 112/113 or an approved transfer course for first-year writing. English 113 is not an upper-division course but the same course as Englwrit 112 offered in a computer classroom. The junior-year requirement can only be met with a course in a student's major.
