Descriptions are usually visual in nature. We focus on colors, shapes, sizes, and shades. However, descriptions can also be about tastes, smells, touches, and sounds. Imagine the following scene and write a descriptive narrative incorporating the senses. Remember that you need not include fantastic plot lines the purpose of this exercise is to let you describe a place according to nontraditional methods. It is 9 a.m. You are at the local Dunkin Donuts. You are in line waiting to order a dozen donuts. What does the store look like? What are some of the sounds, voices, or conversations you catch while standing in line? What does the counter feel like? These are just a few questions to start you on this descriptive process.
