Self As Writer: Questionnaire

As a way to begin the final unit in which students reflect on themselves as writers, and on the body of work they have produced in the course, Jenny hands out a questionnaire similar to this one. The purpose of the questions is to position students as though they were professional writers being interviewed about their process. Here are some of Jenny’s questions:
- Where do you usually write?
- What’s different about where you wrote last year and where you write this year?
- Describe the circumstances that lead to your best writing.
- What kinds of writing materials do you use (i.e.: computer, long hand, special pen)?
- How do you come up with topics?
- How many times do you revise?
- What part of a paper do you tend to find most difficult?
- What are your writing rituals? What do you do to get ready to write?
- What do you do when you’re stuck?
- What have people said about your writing?
