GEORGE SAUNDERS ON CAMPUS FEBRUARY 23!
George Saunders, author of “The Braindead Megaphone” (Other Words, pp. 239-248), will be speaking on campus February 23, 2010, at 7:00 pm. That’s perfect timing for using the essay in Unit II of your College Writing class and asking your students to attend the talk. For more information see: http://www.comcol.umass.edu/academics/honorsseminar/events.html
LIBRARY TRAINING IN ENGLWRIT 112:
All College Writing instructors need to introduce their students to the research resources, print and electronic, available through UMass Libraries. This is a key part of Unit III: Adding to a Conversation. In the standard calendar for spring, we are recommending that you hold this meeting either right before or right after spring recess. For MWF sections, we’re suggesting sometime around Friday, March 12; for MW sections, Wednesday, March 10; and for TuTh sections, Tuesday, March 23. To learn more about the library visit, go to http://blogs.umass.edu/ugradlib/college-writing/ . This page will be updated by the librarians for spring semester; but you can click now on “Reserving a Library Instruction Classroom” and reserve a computer classroom there. We recommend that you do this as soon as possible so you’ll be sure to get a room when you want it and so you can include that date in the calendar you give your students.
