4-coach Mathematics Active Learning Intelligent Tutoring System

4mality is a web-based tutoring system, designed to teach mathematical problem solving and test-taking to third, fourth and fifth grade public school students. Housed on the University server, 4mality is available free of charge to schools and families. 4mality contains mathematical word problems, annotated with hints and feedback to teach a wide range of problem solving strategies to students of various levels of knowledge. 4mality's grade level content is aligned to the Massachusetts Common Core State Standards for Mathematics.

ABLE4STEM

ABLE4STEM is a dynamic program designed to double the number of Massachusetts students who earn Associate’s and Bachelor’s degrees in STEM fields. This collaboration among the University of Massachusetts, the 15 State Community Colleges, Mass Competitive Partnership and the Governors STEM Advisory Council draws on educators, policy makers, higher education administrators and industry leaders to recruit and prepare students for STEM careers. ABLE4STEM establishes pathways for associate’s degree graduates from community colleges to enter STEM majors at UMass campuses.

Academic Practice Partnership: Nursing Leaders & Baystate Health

The College of Nursing at UMass & Baystate Health have a partnership designed to address the goals of all partners. This partnership has many outcomes including multiple sustained evidence based educational, clinical practice, and organizational programs. Some examples are three successful dedicated education units (DEUs), new models for Nursing policy review, a systematic evaluation of the Shared Governance Structure, a program evaluation of the Nursing Falls Prevention program, and a new research based individualized Falls Risk Assessment tool.

Active Minds

Active Minds is a national organization that serves as liaison between students and the mental health community. The Active Minds student chapter at UMass Amherst provides campus-wide events and national programs to help remove the stigma that surrounds mental health issues by providing leadership opportunities, information and advocacy training. The organization works to encourage students to speak openly about mental health and educate others as well as encourage help-seeking.

Adoption Mentoring Partnership

The Adoption Mentoring Partnership (AMP) program is a collaboration between the Rudd Adoption Research Program in the Psychology and Brain Sciences Department at UMass, and Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Hampshire County. This unique program seeks to match UMass students who are adopted with children in the community who are also adopted. Matched across a variety of factors, the mentors and the children are able to form friendships grounded in the similarities between them including their gender, race, ethnicity, and adoption story.

An Exercise Intervention to Prevent Recurrent Gestational Diabetes

The project entitled “An Exercise Intervention to Prevent Recurrent Gestational Diabetes” has the primary goals to investigate the effects of a motivationally-tailored, individually targeted 12-wk physical activity intervention on 1) risk of recurrent Gestational Diabetes Mellitus, 2) serum biomarkers associated with insulin resistance, 3) and the adoption and maintenance of exercise during pregnancy is funded by the National Institutes of Health and being conducted in Springfield.
