UMass Amherst is the lead university for the NSF's Northeast Alliance for Graduate Education and the Professoriate (NEAGEP), and one of 26 NSF-funded alliances for Graduate education and the professoriate (AGEP) programs in the US. It sponsors a number of programs to recruit, retain and prepare under-represented minorities for careers in the professoriate.
