About Us
Kristen Iverson teaches English at Amherst-Pelham Regional High School in the Amherst public school system. Kristen has been an educator for 15 years. She has taught in Berkely, CA; Springfield, MA; and is now in Amherst. She earned her Bachelor's degree from Occidental College; her teaching certification from San Francisco State University; and her Master's degree in Reading and Writing and Literacy Theory from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Kristen is committed to critical literacy, participatory education, adult basic education and the model of the writing project, K-adult. |
Dawn Fontaine teaches social studies at Bridge Academy Alternative High School in the Springfield public school system. Dawn has been an educator for ten years, off of which she has taught in Springfield. She earned her Bachelor's degree and teacher certification through American International College and her Master's degree in Reading and Writing and Literacy Theory from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Dawn is committed to opening up the space for her students to become active participants in their own learning and world. |
Sara Palmer is a fifth grade teacher at the Balliet Elementary School in the Springfield public school system. Sara has been teaching in Springfield for three years, although she has been bossing her friends around playing teacher since she was three years old. She graduated from New York University with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, and is pursuing a Master's degree in Reading and Writing at University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Sara loves providing ways for her students to express themselves to a wider audience: authoring picture books, creating resources for community social justice outreach, and learning to write critically about what they've read. Sara should be commited, period. |
Margaret Bartley is an elementary school reading specialist at Morgan Elementary School in the Holyoke public school system. Margaret has been an educator for sixteen years. She has taught in Holyoke and Springfield schools at the elementary and middle school levels, concentrating on reading instruction. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in education and her Master's degree in Education, consulting teacher of reading, from Wesfield State College. Margaret is committed to providing all of her students with the educational opportunities that will enable them to continue on their adventures as life-long learners. |
Martha Potyrala is a middle school reading teacher in the Springfield public school system. She has been teaching reading and language arts to seventh and eighth grade students for 12 years. She earned her Bachelor's of Arts degree from Curry College and her Master's of Education degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Martha's interests in education are connected to socio-emotional adolescent development, differentiated instruction and standard's-based planning. |
Barbara Bradbury is a reading specialist at the Marcella R. Kelly School in the Holyoke public school system. Barbara has been a teacher in Holyoke for three years. She earned her Bachelor's degree in English at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and her Master's degree in Language and Literacy and teacher certification at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Barbara is interested in developing and refining metacognitive strategies that will enable her students to identify as readers. |
Jim White is a GED instructor at of adult basic education at Massachusetts Development and Career Institute in Springfield. Jim has been involved with Springfield schools in a variety of teaching and administrative capacities for several years. Jim holds a Bachelor's of Arts degree from Yale University as well as a law degree from Western New England College School of Law. Jim id dedicated to the continued development of inner-city students, especially those who have "fallen through the cracks" in our society. |
