Robert Laford is Safety Services Manager with Environmental Health and Safety.On campus he is involved with campus safety initiatives, occupational injury management, employee safety training, and emergency planning and response for the University. Mr. Laford is also a member of the campus hazardous materials response team and is supervisor/advisor to the student-run UMEMS unit. Aside from the University, Bob has been involved in varying degrees of community public safety for thiry years. He has served as both an on-call and career firefighter-E.M.T., fire officer, and part-time Police Officer. Activities in the fire serve has included positions as deputy Fire Chief with the Petersham Fire Department, Captail and Training Officer with the ORange Fire Department, an instructor with the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy and as a Fire Science instructor with the Community College system in Massachusetts, where hew as a member of the Mt. Washusett Community College Fire Science Advosry Board. Bob is author of the text Planning and Practice – A Guide for Emergency Planning and Operations , as well as author of a number of articles that have appeared in such publications as Responder Magazine, Fire Chief Magazine, The Voice, Fire Station Management Advisor, and Occupational Health and Safety Magazine.
