» Web Users Group

The Web Users Group is an informal organization within Communications & Marketing that meets six times a year to discuss ways to better use the Internet as a communications tool.

Topics of concern include: web authoring tools; hardware and cross-platform issues; using the web to help develop a corporate image; using the web as a marketing tool; using the web as a research tool; moving digital images over the Internet; streaming audio & video; writing for the Web; PDAs and wireless access; and the future of the Web.

Future guest speakers will discuss trends and issues of interest to the group. Suggestions for topics and guests will be appreciated. Email us at webdev@admin.umass.edu.

Digital Imaging

We will discuss digital imaging from A to Z. Topics will include digital cameras, storage media, print/slide/film scanning, and image editing in Photoshop. Guest speakers will be on hand to discuss digital imaging as it relates to the Web, photojournalism and how the digital camera fits in the world of photography.

Planning a Web Site
Fred Zinn of OIT presented his workshop on Web site planning. It covered all the basics including audience, usability and content.

Moving Print Publications to the Web
We will explain the do's and don'ts (with specific tips) and review website samples that don't make the successful evolution from print to electronic publication. Morphing print publications to the web environment is an evolving art. Join us as we venture into terra incognita.
