Campus Resources

One of the advantages of attending a large university like UMass Amherst is the range of support services we are able to offer to all students. Visit the Web sites of the programs below for complete information.

Army ROTC

Through the Army ROTC, returning veterans can attend college as a regular student and train to commission as an officer in the U.S. Army upon graduation. Scholarships are also available. Visit the Army ROTC web site at www.umass.edu/armyrotc for more information.

Assistive Technologies Center (ATC)

The ATC is available to any student with an ADA-defined disability who requires assistance with services such as retrieval of materials from the stacks, photocopying, large print user guides, scanning assistance, screen readers, text enhancements, and text enlargers. They offer book readers, scanners, computers with speech synthesizers, text recognition software, and much more.

Career Services

Throughout your UMass Amherst experience, Career Services’ counselors will work with you to envision and realize your goals. They can guide you through career and major exploration, building experience through internships and work opportunities, resume writing, and job searches.

Counseling and Assessment Services (CAS)

At CAS, professional psychologists, career development counselors, psychotherapists, and supervised advanced graduate students provide a range of clinical and related services to all UMass Amherst students.

Dean of Students Office

The Dean of Students Office (the home of Veterans’ Affairs) will help you navigate the bureaucracy of the campus and resolve university-related problems. The staff can answer your questions, advocate on your behalf, or point you and your family in the right direction to get problems solved.

Disability Services

The staff at Disability Services provides assistance to students with learning or physical disabilities. They help students receive accommodations in their academic work, as well as in housing, dining, transportation, and access to programs and services.

Everywoman's Center

Everywoman’s Center serves the very diverse cultural and linguistic populations at UMass Amherst. Their programs include information and referral on a variety of issues and concerns; 24-hour rape crisis service; counseling; support groups; training and community organization on issues of violence against women; as well as advocacy and cultural, educational, and social programs for women of color.

Learning Commons

The Learning Commons brings together library, technology, and other campus services in an environment that fosters informal, collaborative work, and social interaction.

Learning Resource Center

The Learning Resource Center offers tutoring, workshops on learning skills, supplemental instruction, and assistance with research and note-taking to help you hone your academic skills.

Mental Health Services

Mental Health Services has a professional staff of psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, psychiatric social workers, advanced practice nurses, and psychology and social work interns. They focus on brief interventions, including 24-hour emergency service, individual therapy, group therapy, couples and family therapy, medication for emotional problems, and a consultation and education service.

Ombuds

The Ombuds Office helps to make sure that everyone on campus is treated fairly. They assist in resolving conflicts with instructors or campus offices, and they also serve as advocates, making recommendations for changes in university rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Psychological Services Center

The Psychological Services Center is part of the UMass Amherst Psychology Department. The center offers a full range of assessment and psychotherapy services for adults, children and adolescents, and families, without age or residence restrictions, and with fee based on ability to pay. Both short and long term treatment are available. Counselors at the center are doctoral students in the Clinical Psychology Program, who receive intensive supervision by program faculty.

The Stonewall Center

The Stonewall Center is UMass Amherst’s resource center for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender students, faculty, and staff.

Undergraduate Advising

Academic Advisors will guide you throughout your college career, from choosing courses and a major to completing graduation requirements.

University Health Services (UHS)

UHS provides a wide range of services to students, including medical, eye care, mental health, specialty clinics, and health education.

The Writing Center

Writing Center tutors provide free one-on-one assistance and can work with you at any stage of the writing process and on a wide range of genres.

Military Community Resource Center

The Center was created to assist student veterans in transitioning from the military to student life. We’ve developed a network of support services for students including peer support programs, counseling, and referrals.

The Center is also an advocate for the student veteran community with regard to their concerns and acts as a liaison between the student veteran community and the university administration, state and federal governments and community government officials.

Veterans and Service Members Association (VASMA)

VASMA is an student organization serving the UMass Amherst military family and local community. The organization was created by undergraduate soldiers, airmen, sailors, and marines to help facilitate the transition between military and academic environments. VASMA provides information about appropriate services and resources to veterans, service members, and their families and strives to create a unified voice for the student veteran community.
