Facilities
The facilities include a breeding shed approximately 2500 sq. ft. with a complete laboratory for processing and handling semen and an indoor arena of 22500 sq. ft for a total of 25,000 sq. ft. The indoor arena is a steel clear span building and has slanted kickboards with a surface of sand and sawdust mix. The all complex accommodates approximately 70-80 horses in box stalls or paddocks and pastures with run-in sheds. The stalls are 10X12 rubber matted over asphalt with steel grill fronts from 4 ft up to 10 ft. All stalls have automatic waterers, individual lighting and outlets at every stall. Assisted Reproduction Services The equine center for assisted reproduction offers services for: a) performance stallions and mares so they can continue to train and compete and still maximize the reproductive potential e.g., embryo transfer, b) breeding management of healthy mares and mares with chronic uterine infections
c) semen collection from stallions for sperm analysis, cooled shipment or semen freezing Cryopreservation of stallion semen will assist horse breeders that currently have very limited options to have their stallions’ semen frozen in New England . The use of a computer assisted sperm analysis, e.g., Hamilton Thorne Research computer assisted sperm analysis (CASA), is currently one of the state-of-the-art equipment to evaluate the reproductive potential of stallions and to diagnose infertility. d) Fertility workup. Complete breeding soundness examination of mares or stallions with infertility problems. Note: For convenience, breeding soundness examination of mares or stallions with infertility problems could be scheduled at specified days at Tufts school of Veterinary Medicine.
