A high level of support

You will be assisted in identifying and obtaining upper division courses in your field and general education courses, along with other degree requirements you may need. General education requirements may be taken through UMass Amherst, at a local college, or College Level Examination Program (CLEP), and may be included as part of the 75 credit maximum allowed in transfer.

Arts Administration Individualized Concentration Courses
In your UWW focus area in Arts Administration courses you’ll have a chance to apply your knowledge immediately to a case study organization—ideally, your own nonprofit. A choice of eight upper division courses specifically designed to help you build a UWW area of study in Arts Administration is available. All courses forming the UWW focus in Arts Administration are made available to students in a schedule they can use to complete their degree. Students must complete 5 upper-division courses in their area of study. All Arts Administration courses are offered online:

  • Arts Programming
  • Board Development
  • Strategic Planning
  • Arts Marketing
  • Fundraising
  • Program Evaluation
  • Financial Management
  • Arts Education

NOTE: Students may also access courses offered by UMass Amherst Continuing & Professional Education or regular day division courses.

UWW IS WHAT YOU’RE LOOKING FOR
The University Without Walls was one of the first programs in the nation designed specifically for adults. Since 1971, UWW has been helping people like you obtain UMass Amherst bachelor’s degrees. A wide range of students are successful in UWW, and the program has an outstanding record of preparing students for graduate study. Nearly 50% of UWW graduates have successfully gone on to masters and doctoral programs.

Credit for professional development programs UWW students can have professional development training that is considered “college level” evaluated for credit and counted as transfer credits.  Credit for learning gained from life and work experiences.

Upon completing your UWW core courses, you will take UWW’s Writing About Experience course, taught by UWW faculty. Here you’ll develop a prior learning portfolio that documents, describes, and analyzes learning you’ve gained through your life, work and training experiences. Once complete, your portfolio will be evaluated by faculty, and you’ll be awarded up to 30 UMass Amherst academic credits.

You may choose to earn a Certificate in Arts Management while moving toward your UMass Amherst bachelor's degree through UWW
Upon successful completion of four Arts Extension Service Arts Management courses you may choose to apply them to a Certificate of Arts Management from the UMass Amherst Arts Extension Service or, if you complete all eight courses, a Professional Track Certificate is earned. No additional fees are required for certification and these courses, when taken for credit, will still help you build your area of study in UWW, moving you toward your UMass Amherst bachelor’s degree.
