UWW Programs & Courses

UWW students in the Individualized Degree Program may choose to pursue a degree concentration through online courses. Fully online courses are available in the following areas: early care and education, business, hospitality, criminal justice, arts management, and journalism. Some students may choose to combine online courses from these areas to design an interdisciplinary major.

The UWW Programs

Adult learners completing a degree through the UMass Amherst University Without Walls can choose from two programs to meet their educational goals and scheduling needs. Students have an opportunity to design an interdisciplinary major—a "concentration"—that matches their interests and incorporates appropriate courses as well as credits for learning gained from life and work experience. Some UWW students may instead choose to pursue a bachelor of arts degree with licensure to teach in Massachusetts public elementary schools.

The UWW Core Courses

UWW offers a variety of courses which support its two programs. These UWW courses are designed to enhance skills needed by all learners in all fields: critical thinking, research, and analytical writing. They are also designed to help students connect their experience with the issues that face everyone who works or volunteers in organizations today. UWW also offers independent learning opportunities and sponsors courses in specialized fields of study, working closely with other UMass Amherst departments.
