To complete their first ever bachelors degree in any of the UMass Amherst UWW programs, all UWW students must take certain required UWW courses during the first two semesters. Most programs include additional courses in the concentration area. Course options include UWW sponsored courses from other University departments scheduled especially for UWW students. For those needing to fill a general education science requirement, several natural science courses are available through UWW. Students wanting to focus on a more particular topic not offered in the course catalog can, in concert with the advisor and faculty sponsor, design a learning contract for an independent study or an internship. Also available are all other courses offered by the University of Massachusetts Amherst, whether in Continuing & Professional Education or the day division.
