UWW student spotlight: Colleen Goddard

UMass Amherst UWW student Colleen Goddard was featured in an Online Business Degree article about finishing her bachelor’s degree with a focus in Business Studies. Goddard chose UMass Amherst UWW to be a part of a prestigious university that offered the convenience and flexibility she needed. With a background in the insurance industry and nonprofit fundraising, Goddard chose a Business Studies focus in order to receive the maximum amount of credits she could for her life and work experience. “I felt Business Studies cover these areas the best, not to mention I felt as though I would have more options for jobs once I get my degree,” said Goddard.

The flexibility of UMass Amherst UWW has made it possible for Goddard to work toward the completion of her degree. “Had the online option not been available, I would not have been able to go back to school,” she said. “I simply would do my class work when my children were at school or in bed.”

When asked for tips about adapting to an online education, Goddard advised students to “keep an open mind about learning how to learn in a completely new and exciting way. There was a small learning curve for me in the beginning, but now it’s almost second nature. Secondly, I would suggest that they be open to the positive changes they will likely experience, especially if they decide to go for the prior learning credit…I also feel that it was something that led to a positive change in me.”
