UWW student Nayroby Rosa appears in Valley U. Mazagine
In a recent Vally U magazine article entitled, "Life Beyond the Gap" 27 year old UWW student Nayroby Rosa was interviewed about why she decided to return to college. The single mother of a seven year old daughter, Rosa works with at-risk city teens and is completing a program of study in child and youth services. After graduating, she plans to enter a combined juris doctor/ masters of social work graduate program.
"I decided to go back to school after realizing that the income I was receiving would not be enough to support my daughter," Rosa said. "In addition to that, because I was working in the field, I felt like I needed the educational background as well."
Reporter Rachael Kelly, herself an adult student, had this to say about UMass UWW. "Rosa is not only a student but also a single mother, making a conventional education much more difficult. By pursuing her degree at the University Without Walls, Rosa is able to attend classes online and still care for her 7-year-old daughter. The University Without Walls is unique for several reasons. Not only does it allow adults to work towards an education while managing their personal responsibilities, at UWW students can receive credit for experience held outside of college."
